Shepherds After God's Own Heart Robert Wurtz II But Jacob said to him, "My lord knows that the children are weak, and the flocks and herds which are nursing are with me. And if the men should drive them hard one day, all the flock will die." (Genesis 33:13 NKJV) Genesis is a... Continue Reading →

The Danger of Slothfulness
The spirit of Slothfulness Robert Wurtz II The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich (Proverbs 13:4). Our text reveals the spirit (attitude) of slothfulness. It desires but won’t put forth the effort to obtain what it wants. It either goes... Continue Reading →
The Dangers of Seeking Acclamation
Acclamation is a loud shout of approval. Edification is the building up of the saints. What do we want? To be shouted down or to build the people up?
Another Jesus
The most important thing about a person is what comes into their mind when they think about God (A.W. Tozer). This is why studying scripture is vitally important. Generally speaking, a person who never reads their Bible has consciously or unconsciously chosen to “fashion” Jesus according to their own desires.
Plunging into Darkness
The blasphemy and wickedness on display at the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony was a shock to many but not to God or history. Fashion and artistic expression are the cover terms for this latest abomination. Yet, from eternity past, God was fully aware of the depraved evil that would seize our generation.
Heaven Has The Rule
God taught Nebuchadnezzar an important lesson. I sometimes say that "there is a generation that doesn't learn by lecture, illustration or revelation; but by destruction and devastation." Destruction deals with loss; devastation deals with the emotional response to that loss. Nebuchadnezzar learned the hard way that God is in control of the kingdoms of this world.
The spirit of a Pharisee
The Pharisees simply didn't care about God's will. It was all a put-on. Jesus likens their attitude to someone fishing around in their drink to pull out a little gnat that fell in, then turning around and swallowing a camel. Both gnats (Leviticus 11:23, 41) and camels (Leviticus 11:4) were unclean and not to be eaten.
The Stolen Waters
The devil’s propaganda says that, “stolen waters are sweet.” This is a way of saying that things that are forbidden are inviting. When a person takes something that doesn’t belong to them, especially if it is someone else’s spouse, they are acting up upon this deception. They are allured by the excitement of doing something wrong. The greater the wrong, the greater the sweetness says this outlook. The world might express it by saying they get a rush when they commit certain sins.
Grudge Not
Understand that the Bible places a tremendous emphasis on how human beings treat each other and links that behavior to whether a person goes to Heaven or Hell. Jesus added an enormous focus to it. Why? Because fallen human beings seem always to be looking for an excuse to mistreat someone.
Searing the Conscience
When people refuse to agree with God's word, they are searing their conscience. When the conscience is seared, the mind is no longer summonsed to weigh the truth of an action or idea. The Greek word for seared is the root for our word cauterize. A seared or cauterized conscience makes the person dangerous to the church because they normalize behaviors that God says are sinful.
