The devil’s propaganda says that, “stolen waters are sweet.” This is a way of saying that things that are forbidden are inviting. When a person takes something that doesn’t belong to them, especially if it is someone else’s spouse, they are acting up upon this deception. They are allured by the excitement of doing something wrong. The greater the wrong, the greater the sweetness says this outlook. The world might express it by saying they get a rush when they commit certain sins.
Searing the Conscience
When people refuse to agree with God's word, they are searing their conscience. When the conscience is seared, the mind is no longer summonsed to weigh the truth of an action or idea. The Greek word for seared is the root for our word cauterize. A seared or cauterized conscience makes the person dangerous to the church because they normalize behaviors that God says are sinful.
